ALBURNO is a communication studio and handcrafted design brand born in 2012 from an idea of Nicolò Bottarelli. The aim of the project is to focus the attention on the problems related to the extinction of animals that have disappeared or are disappearing due to men’s wrong behavior. Using traditional techniques, similar to those used in the past, with which craftsmen led their toys to tell the life of the period, from horse to farm animals, we wanted to recreate the forms of extinct animals, ideally bringing them to life.

By reusing multicolured, cast-off plastic crates which have no actual value on their own, Dutch designer Mark van der Gronden has given them a new purpose and, consequently, new value by creating his latest upcycled cabinet for the Breda-based manufacturer Lensvelt. The colour and design of every Krattenkast is unique, because the collection of the crates varies continuously and there also seems to be an endless number of different models of crates.

Fredrikson Stallard have chosen to use Hallingdal 65 as a structural element in the design for a low table. The fabric is tightly rolled to make a solid form – a finished structure that is reminiscent of a tree trunk section with its concentric rings laid down through the passing of time.

‘Skydeck’, a small table which is made to hook onto handrails of balconies or lookout points, has been created by  Japanese firm torafu architects and will be manufactured by Ishinomaki Laboratory. You can put your mobile phone or a radio on it while you hang out your laundry, or it can be used as a counter when you have a beer on your balcony on a nice day. Ishinomaki Laboratory is ‘a place of creating something new’ for the community, established by designers and others in Ishinomaki, a city which was devastated by the Tsunami on March 11.
